What is the Juvenile Cases Eligible for Sealing Report and how is it run?

The Administrative Office of the Courts has created The Juvenile Cases Eligible for Sealing Report which provides information pertaining to sealing criteria effective June 12, 2014 per 2SHB 1651. The report provides a list of cases and/or referrals that may be eligible for sealing under RCW 13.50.260 1(c).

The Juvenile Cases Eligible for Sealing Report is run monthly and is available to both Superior Courts and Juvenile Courts on the 1st day of each month. To find and display the report, a Site Coordinator should login to BIT, go to their inbox, and double click on "-Court Name Inserted- Juvenile Cases Eligible for Sealing Report." If you do not have access to BIT please contact your Site Coordinator.

Please note: This is a report of potentially eligible juveniles and is intended to assist the courts in determining cases which may be eligible for sealing. It may not be inclusive of all criteria required to seal, each case/referral should be reviewed independently to ensure it meets all requirements outlined under RCW 13.50.260.

***Admin Review Date: The information for this date is obtained from the Order of Disposition (ORD) docket code and the calendar date entered on the Secondary Field.

If it has been determined that the case is ineligible for sealing, the following process will remove them from displaying on future reports thereby limiting the need to revisit cases/referrals. Juvenile Courts and Superior Courts, upon finding that a case/referral is ineligibility for sealing should either:

  1. The Juvenile Court should update the referral status to CLC IX defined as "Determine Ineligibility for Sealing".
  2. The Superior Court will enter an "Order Sealing File Denied" ORSFD which will automatically update the referral status to CLC IX on the associated referral if it is currently in active status. If the referral is in a closed status no change will be triggered in JCS.
